This is a hands-on, process-driven role at the heart of a compact, high-performing finance team, focused on maintaining strong financial controls, delivering accurate month-end processes, and ensuring core finance routines are completed on time and to a high standard. The role is primarily focused on transactional excellence and month-end delivery, forming a strong operational foundation that supports accurate reporting and effective financial decision-making across the business.

For the right candidate, this role offers a clear pathway to progression into a Management Accountant position within 12–18 months.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End & Financial Reporting Support

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Prepare and post month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, etc.)
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations with clear supporting documentation
  • Support revenue and cost recognition processes
  • Prepare cost analysis and attend monthly review meetings with department heads
  • Ensure month-end deadlines are met consistently
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and supporting schedules

Financial Control & Process Ownership

  • Maintain strong financial controls across key accounting areas
  • Ensure transactions are accurately coded and recorded in the accounting system
  • Support bank reconciliations and investigation of reconciling items
  • Assist with intercompany reconciliations
  • Maintain clear and organised working papers

Purchase Ledger & Transactional Support

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure appropriate approval workflows are followed
  • Support supplier payment runs
  • Handle supplier queries and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with employee expense processing
  • Support maintenance of finance inbox and internal finance queries

​Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Support improvements in finance processes to drive efficiency and accuracy
  • Maintain data integrity within the finance system
  • Assist in refining month-end checklists and reporting templates
  • Contribute to automation and simplification of routine processes where possible

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Part-qualified (AAT/ACCA/CIMA) or actively studying
  • Experience in a transactional finance or assistant finance role
  • Experience supporting month-end processes
  • Confident posting journals and assisting with balance sheet reconciliations
  • Strong Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines within a structured timetable

Desirable

  • Experience in a growing SME or SaaS environment
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting systems
  • Exposure to audit processes
